Duties:

This position is responsible for ensuring that outstanding service is delivered to both internal and external members. Under the direction of the Assistant Vice President of HR, the HR Director is responsible to lead and coordinate the efficiencies, policies, activities, compliance and staff of the Human Resource (HR) department.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  1. Develop each employee to their highest potential by identifying their areas for improvement and appropriately coaching, training or correcting the employees’ performance
  2. Recognize employees who perform at a high level
  3. Hold employees accountable for their performance, attitude and behavior
  4. Meet with direct report(s) monthly to review previous month’s performance, set goals for upcoming month’s performance and develop plans to improve employee’s performance
  5. Ensure that direct report(s) meet service goals as established by the Credit Union
  6. Demonstrate enthusiastic support of corporate mission, core values and long-term objectives
  7. Performs job duties within bylaws, regulations, Board of Directors policies, established internal and external service standards and established procedures
  8. Train and supervise department staff. Assign, direct, coordinate and review work performed by direct report(s)
  9. Maintains a highly motivated, well-trained staff maintaining effective employee relations
  10. Ensure all policies and procedures for the department comply with all State and Federal guidelines. Ensure that the Employee Handbook and human resources procedure manual remains up-to-date
  11. Responsible to assist with and ensure staff carries out HR duties efficiently and in accordance with established procedures, regulations and policies in areas, such as, but not limited to: Payroll, Benefits Administration, Recruitment, New Employee Orientation/Onboarding, Recruitment, Performance Management, Status Changes, Terminations, Leaves, FMLA/ADA, Corporate Apparel, Employee Recognition, etc.
  12. Recruit and select quality talent for vacancies, ensuring that the credit union is adequately staffed with competent employees. Establish recruiting and placement standards
  13. Oversee development and administration of new employee orientation and/or exit interview program
  14. Assist management, employees and direct report(s) in the interpretation and application of Employee Handbook and human resources procedures
  15. Create and conduct training and development programs that meet the needs of the staff and management and that meet the objectives of the credit union
  16. Advise managers and supervisors on desired corrective and disciplinary actions, offering alternatives and objective solutions
  17. Review, recommend, and oversee administration of the credit union’s overall benefits and compensation programs
  18. Develop, maintain, and monitor the performance appraisal system for the credit union
  19. Is responsible to back up of all HR Coordinator duties as outlined on the HR Coordinator job description
  20. Maintain up-to-date and thorough knowledge of federal and state employment law

Non-Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  1. Participates in special assignments and performs other related duties as assigned

 

Requirements:

Bachelor’s Degree in related field, or comparable time on the job in a Human Resources capacity with successful progressive responsibility

 

Additional Desired Attributes:

Professional in Human Resources designation preferred (PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP)

 

The successful candidate will have a professional approach in dealing with problems and people, as well as, a positive attitude and feedback about credit union policies and procedures. The successful candidate will be a self-starter with the ability to work with minimal supervision. Position requires a high level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations and documents. excellent oral and written communication skills, as well as, strong working knowledge of regulations impacting human resources management, principles and practices of personnel administration. strong working knowledge in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint. The successful candidate will be organized, detail-oriented, have the ability to think analytically and be able to prioritize and manage constant interruptions throughout the workday without losing efficiency or productivity.

Physical Demands and Work Environment: Typical indoor office environment with occasional travel and driving required. Must be able to remain stationary for long periods of time in a sitting position. Must be able to occasionally move about/traverse inside the office to access cabinets, personnel files, office machines, etc. Requires occasional lifting and/or carrying of less than 10 pounds. Requires continuous communication to others and exchanging of information. Requires repetitive use of hand/fingers, such as keyboard typing and using office equipment. Must be able to continuously think analytically, use written communication, handle stress and emotions, concentrate on tasks and remember names and/or details.
